Gallery View: Fine-pitch LED displays boost popularity of ultrabright but ultrasmall SMD LEDs

Manufacturers of SMD LEDs in China will keep expanding their product catalogs with ultrasmall designs that also have high brightness and power, keenly eyeing demand from fine-pixel pitch LED displays. In Market Watch's 2021 report, this application is projected to have a 15.5 percent CAGR from 2022 to 2027.

SMD LEDs in 1010 and 0808 packages are typically used in these displays at present, but suppliers interviewed by Global Sources Electronic Components say 0606 and 0404 variants are the likely future trend. Others are pursuing further miniaturization for small electronic devices as well.

The current supply from Chinese companies includes 5050, 2835, 3528, 3020, 3535, 0201, 0402, 0603 0805, 1206, 1010, 0808, 0606, 020 and 335 SMD LEDs, with those in 5050, 2835 and 3528 sizes leading output. Available in natural, warm and cool white, red, green, blue, yellow and RGB, these diodes have 80 CRI, 120-degree viewing angle and more than 100,000-hour life span. All meet CE, RoHS and UL requirements. Their main applications are LED lighting, displays and backlights.

Components and materials such as lenses, gold wires and adhesives are generally sourced from the domestic supply, while LED chips may come from foreign companies as requested. The cost of production inputs increased in 2020, resulting in about 10 percent higher prices. Input costs and product prices are both expected to stabilize this year.

2835 package, 26 to 28 lumens

CPM Electronics Co. Ltd offers the S2835WUC SMD LED with 26 to 28 lumens luminous flux and 2,900 to 3,100K or 5,900 to 6,300K color temperature. Operating voltage is 2.9 to 3.1V.

The supplier requires an order of 4,000 units. Delivery is within seven days.

1206 package, 125-degree viewing angle

This S1206 SMD LED from CPM Electronics Co. Ltd has 660, 640, 465, 516 or 596nm wavelength, 125-degree viewing angle, 60 or 70mW power dissipation and 10µA reverse current. It has a clear white lens and emits red, blue, green or yellow color.

The minimum order quantity is 4,000 units. Lead time is seven days.

2835 package, 6,500K color temperature

From Double Light Electronics Technology Co. Ltd, this DL-TOP2835W30-1W SMD LED has 23, 150 or 180 lumens luminous flux, 6,500K color temperature and 80 CRI. The unit, which comes in a 2835 package, has 2V forward voltage and 5µA reverse current. It is available in white, warm white and natural white.

The 1,000-unit minimum order requirement has a lead time of five days.

3014 package, 95mW power dissipation

The DL-TOP3014W57-1W120 from Double Light Electronics Technology Co. Ltd is a 3014 SMD LED with 11 to 13 lumens luminous flux, 5,300 to 6,000K color temperature and 120-degree viewing angle. Forward voltage is 3.3V, reverse current 10µA and power dissipation 95mW. Color options include soft red, orange, yellow, green, blue and white.

An order of at least 10,000 units is required. This has a five-day lead time.

0402 package, 120mcd

Shenzhen Crystal Technology Industrial Co. Ltd's ultrabright-orange 0402 SMD LED, the MT-L0402QYOC-B1, has 120mcd luminous intensity, 604nm peak wavelength and 120-degree viewing angle. It has 90mW power dissipation, 5V reverse voltage, and 100mA peak and 30mA DC forward current. Operating temperature is -30 to 85 C.

The minimum order is 4,000 units for delivery within seven days.

Model MT-L0603QBC-SESB3 blue SMD LED from Shenzhen Crystal Technology Industrial Co. Ltd has 100mcd maximum luminous intensity, 468nm peak wavelength and 130-degree viewing angle.
